A member asked:

If a licensed counsellor conducts adhd diagnosis, will that carry weight with an md? or should i find a clinical psych?

No reason why it: Should not carry weight. If the psychologist is reputable and performs an adequate evaluation, then no reason for any md to argue with their assessment.

As a psychiatrist - : Whether the diagnosis is coming from another psychiatrist, a psychologist, a licensed counselor, etc. - i want to see the documentation that shows how the diagnosis was made. Psychiatric medications can be life saving but can also have potential significant side effects. I am responsible for any medications i write - i owe it to the patient to ensure that the diagnosis is accurate ; we are.
