Bipolarity: Lithium is used for a variety of mental health conditions and symptoms. Most commonly it is used for bipolar disorder. Blood level should be ideally drawn approximately 12 hours after the evening dose ('trough level'). For an acute manic episode, an ideal level is 0.8 to 1.2 meq/l whereas maintenance levels are 0.6 to 1.2. However, one could be easily be doing well with a level of 0.5.
