Sounds like a tooth!: Pain in the back of the upper jaw could be due either to a dental problem or a sinus problem. If it hurts when you drink cold or hot liquids, it's more likely a tooth that may be abscessed. You may need a root canal or even a tooth extraction, it's hard to tell. A dentist or a specialist such as an endodontist could be able to tell you whether it's a tooth or your sinuses.

Tooth Pain: Sinus problems would not be typically sensitive to hot and cold. Radiating pain is a sign of a dying tooth. If the pain radiates to the temple then it is most likely an upper molar. If it radiates to the ear/back of the head it is most likely a lower molar. You should see your dentist for a diagnosis.
