Not common: While birth control pills are not associated with a decrease in bone mineral density, this applies to the combination pills that contain estrogen and progesterone. Depo-provera is associated with a decrease in bone density that is reversible with discontinuation. You are not specific about what birth control, but it is possible that it is a cause.
