Choice of meds: Discuss the use of talimisartan (t) for long BP use with your physician (p). It is an angiotensin receptor blocker that not only lowers bp, it lowers protein excretion, which is abnormal in high amounts, by the kidneys. T also protects the heart and kidneys and has a low side effect profile. Amlodipine is an effective BP lowering agent that may cause some edema of the legs. Get your p's input.

Both: Both are excellent for long term treatment. Amlodipine at 5 mg rarely causes side effects while at 10 mg, a significant percent of users may discover that their legs swell (harmlessly). Use whichever one costs less for you.
