Neck Sprain: Sounds like you developed a neck spasm. Moist heat will probably feel better than ice. That and some tylenol (acetaminophen) and Ibuprofen and couple days of rest should resolve the pain. If not, have it looked at by an orthopedist.

Muscle Spasm: Sounds like you have cervical muscle spasm. I would recommend heat over cold. Warm to hot shower, and head pack should help.

If try ice: First as in any injury ice for 72 hours then switch to moist heat. Take 3 aleve (naproxen) twice a day or 4 Ibuprofen every 8 hours to help reduce inflammation . If not better in a fre days to a week seek care. Best!
