Gum disease: Not getting worse is good. Not having any disease at all and in great dental health (both teeth and gums) is even better. Your own dentist can monitor your dental health. Make sure you are seen at least every six months for an exam and cleaning and brush and floss properly after every meal.

Be proactive: Improvement in your gum disease deserves congratulations, but don't get overconfident. Keep up with dental visits, proper home care and overall health. It can come back.

How do you know: Were you able to do probing of pocket depths around the teeth, or review bone levels on x-rays, or measure gum recession, or bleeding on probing, or amount of plaque or tarter on your teeth? If your Dentist or a specialist Periodontist told you your gum disease has not advanced, wonderful. If this is a self-diagnosis, however, I recommend that you see a professional. Make a dental appointment.
