A member asked:

When treating for scabies, do clothes have to be washed in boiling water to kill them? or will hot water from washing machine kill them?

Hot water fine: Washing in hot water is sufficient to rid the clothes of the insect. For items that can't be washed for some reason, bag in a plastic garbage bag, seal it tight and leave items for at least three days. The insect cannot survive off the human longer than this, so that kills them all.

Scabies: You’ll have to clean (ie. Hot water in machine) clothes, bedding ; towels you have come in contact w. Place on high in drier. Some things like pillows can’t go in the wash- put them in a big plastic bag ; tie it up for at least 48 hrs because scabies can survive w/o being on humans for 24 to 36 hrs.
