See your doctor: Usually chests don't produce cracking sound, and if your back pain is producing it, then you need to see your doctor, and have this checked out. If otc pain meds, and warm compresses, mineral baths don't help, you may need something else based on your physical exam. Start with your doctor first for the best, and most accurate advice to get out of pain..

A few thoughts: If cracking is in front, then ribs may be malfunctioning or have come loose from their attachments to sternum. If cracking & pain are in back, could be rib or vertebral dysfunction. If vert. bends forward (flexes) & gets stuck, it can produce symptoms like yours.Consider consulting an osteopathic dr who is trained in treating such problems with manipulation, prolotherapy, etc.
