Can't tell: However early shingles may start with itching before the bumps turn dark and painful. Google a picture of dermatome and see if your lesions follow any of the dermatome pattern. If it does, early anti-viral treatment may reduce the intensity and complication of shingles. However if you have had the same lesions b4 at the same location, shingles would be unlikely.
