No: 6 hours is not too long at all to leave a tampon in. You can leave tampons in for up to 8 hours without a worry. Are you using the highest absorbancy? Given that you had to use 2, i'm assuming that your flow is heavy. If you have really heavy flow, changing a tampon or pad in 2 hours or less, then you may want to see doctor about reasons for high flow.
