Confusing question: You are listed as 17. First pap tests are recommended within 2 years of starting sexual activity or possibly at age 21. Before then, formal pelvic exams are not generally required. If you are sexually active you need such an exam to keep track of possibly silent std's that could make you sterile. Comfort during such an exam is relative.Be open with the doc and they can help you better.

Pap at 21yo: It's a great thing to start thinking about your female health, but we actually have not been recommending pap smears unless you're older than 21. When you turn 21 though, a pap smear is a private and safe procedure. It's just taking a quick look at your cervix and a gentle swab. You'll feel a little pressure, but no pinching/poking. No one checks for virginity. Should be confidential.
