New diabetic med: Canagliflozin is a newer diabetic medication in a class called sodium-glucose transport protein (sglt-2) inhibitor used in type 2 diabetes. It works by inhibiting the reabsorption of sugar in your kidneys. The main side effects are some increased urination due to more sugar in the urine, increased risk of urinary tract infections (bacteria like sugar), and lower blood pressure (due to fluid loss).
