No: Periacetabular osteotomy (pao) for acetabular dysplasia of the hip is an effective means of relieving pain, improving or normalizing function, and delaying or even preventing arthritis completely. When performed by an experienced specialist it is a fairly safe and predictable surgery indicated for those with progressive symptoms not responding to conservative measures. It should not affect growth.
