Yes: A laparotomy is an incision into the abdominal wall to directly access the abdominal cavity. The uterus is in the abdominal cavity, so a csection requires a laparotomy. However, the incision is usually performed in the bikini line; exploratory laparotomy incisions are usually made in the midline.
