Whats the difference between general anesthesia and conscious sedation?

Terminology: The term 'general anesthesia' usually is taken to mean a very deep induced sleep (iv medicine and/or anesthetic gas) and the insertion of a breathing tube. Conscious sedation is a lighter anesthesia given in a supervised setting and a breathing tube is typically not required since the sedation is not as deep. Both are technically "general anesthesia" since IV medicine or anesthetic gas are used.

With conscious : Sedation now called moderate sedation, you don't lose purposeful reactions to commands.
