Extremely rare: The average U.S. City should not have rabies, due to the success of pet vaccination programs and animal control programs. Rabies in the U.S. Is carried by raccoons, skunks, foxes, coyotes, and bats. Urban areas have very few of these animals. However, exposure (such as a bite) from such an animal requires a visit to the doctor to decide whether or not rabies shots should be given to the patient.
