A member asked:

Why does my neck make a crack and pop sound when i turn my head or put it down or back it does it every now and then is it broken? it's doing it now

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Joints in neck: In the neck, there are numerous joints that are designed to slide over one another, thus giving flexibility of movement. Its just like the joints in the hands. These are usually cartilage. When these slide over each over, there is a vacuum type phenomenon that occurs. This leads to the "popping" sensation as the joint surfaces slide against each other.
