Joints in neck: In the neck, there are numerous joints that are designed to slide over one another, thus giving flexibility of movement. Its just like the joints in the hands. These are usually cartilage. When these slide over each over, there is a vacuum type phenomenon that occurs. This leads to the "popping" sensation as the joint surfaces slide against each other.
