Varies: Worldwide, commonest cause of infection-chronic carrier (mom) spreads virus to infant during birth process; this often will lead to a chronic carrier state in infant; process continues over generations. May be prevented with hbig to infant, subsequent immunization. Immunize before sex activity starts may decrease another source for carriage. Not all infected are carriers, or actively infected.
