A 54-year-old member asked:
Can I reverse hair loss?
2 doctor answers • 4 doctors weighed in

Dr. M. Christine Lee answered
Dermatology 28 years experience
Depends on the cause: Androgenetic alopecia (male pattern baldness) can be reversed with rogaine (minoxidil) or Propecia if it's started soon enough. To maintain the results they have to be used on an ongoing basis. Hair loss due to pregnancy, trauma or shock will grow back with time. Hair loss due to underlying medical problems (ie: anemia) can be reversed if the medical problem is treated.

In addition to finasteride and minoxidil, Low level laser therapy (laser combs or caps for example) can also slow or reverse hair loss. Transplanting hair from the back of the head also can restore hair in thin or bald areas

A 33-year-old female asked:
Since cutting out meat and dairy I noticed I loose a lot more hair. What nutrients am I lacking from cutting these foods that can cause hair loss?
1 doctor answer • 3 doctors weighed in

Dr. Al Hegab answered
Allergy and Immunology 40 years experience
Hair loss: Can be due to several reasons, not necessarily cutting off meat/dairy , vegans don't loose hair. It can be the diet itself, losing weight fast, stress, hormonal dysfunction (e.g thyroid) , better see your doctor for evaluation and possible referral to a dermatologist, best wishes
