Take hydrocodone 5/325 and i take ambien (zolpidem) every night. hydro doesn't help me fall asleep so i need the ambien (zolpidem). is it ok to take it?

Narcotics: The narcotic is prescribed for back pain and it is not a sleep medication. Adding Ambien (zolpidem) to it is not wise as it is indicated for short term sleep aid. Long term mood altering meds for pain syndromes requires management by trained pain specialists.

Advise against it: Hydrocodone can cause somnolence for some, but not all. It should not be used to help treat insomnia. Taking Ambien (zolpidem) is also not a good habit to get into due to the addiction and tolerance it causes. Both medications together are not safe or healthy. Both can effect you neurologically and suppress your breathing. Talk to a sleep specialist if you're suffering from insomnia.

Hydrocodone: is a narcotic pain medication and in conjunction with Ambien (zolpidem) can cause fatal drug-drug reactions. H-C is NOT a sleeping pill and it seems that you are also on medication for depression and anxiety (Lexapro). You are gambling with your life. Please get counseling and medication adjustments and evaluation.
