Can herbal supplements be used to self-treat hepatitis c?

No: Despite what your naturopathic doctor recommends, no herbal remedies have been shown to lead a cure for hepatitis c. The goal in any hepatitis C treatment regimen will always be a cure (or what we call an svr).

No: Hepatitis c is caused by a virus. There is no herbal supplement that will eliminate the hep c virus. Supplements might be useful in treating the symptoms of hepatitis C such as vitamin b to increase energy and lessen fatigue.

No: There are effective holistic remedies and therapies, but I do not suggest that they be used to self-treat. Any therapy, especially one dealing with a health problem of this nature, should be monitored and directed by a physician.

No: While milk thistle has received a lot of press as a cleanser for the liver, particularly for the treatment of hepatitis c, you'll find no true evidence to support its use. As it stands today, there are no herbals that have been proved effective for treating hepatitis c.

No: No herbal treatment has been shown to improve or cure hepatitis c. In fact, pursuing herbal treatment, if it delays allopathic treatment, may be detrimental to you.

Yes: While herbs can offer some liver protection, we have not discovered the herbal combination that cures hepatitis c. Herbs like silimarin have some antioxidant and liver protective properties.
