Nerve pain: Based on your age of 50 i would suggest an examination by a neurologist and likely an MRI of the lower back to evaluate for possible pathology that could be causing these symptoms.

Need to see Dr: This could be a number of things, including spinal canal stenosis causing something called neurogenic claudication. While this is not emergent, it should be identified so that corrective treatment plans can be initiated (long term management usually). A physical exam and an MRI could tell you much more and i would recommend seeing a physiatrist or orthopedist to see what they think.
