Seek diagnosis : Synovial fluid in and of itself does not usually cause pain. If your knee is swollen and you have an " excess" of synovial fluid, it is probably from an underlying cause such as a synovitis or a louse body or generalized arthritis. Once the specific diagnosis is made, then the treatment options can be determined.
