How many people who weren't spanked as a child spank their children, and how many who were do?

Don't know: This is not a subject I am aware that is followed statistically. Most parents do repeat discipline methods that were used on them as children. Many also do not as they did not like those methods. . Corporal punishment does "work" on children up to age eight . After that it seems to increase negative behavior. Look for nonphysical ways to discipline as they are more effective in the long run.

Studies show that : people who were not spanked as children do not spank their children. Current research shows that 2/3 of parents in the U.S. believe that physical punishment is okay. See http://www.endhittingusa.org/resources/printable-case-against-cp-and-our-manifesto/spanking-and-child-development-elizabeth-gershoff for scientific evidence of the harmful behavioral & developmental effects of spanking children.
