Maybe not: I want to be sure that your daughter has a chromosomal abnormality. As you may know, there is fetal hydantoin (dilantin) syndrome with growth retardation, and small head. Some aspects of this syndrome may be similar to either of the 2 22q deletion syndrome. One is digeorge syndrome with 22q 11.2 deletion, and the other phelan-mcdermed syndrome with 22q13 deletion. Neither is caused by dilantin.

Difficult to know: Ninety % of these are newly formed accidents in chromosome replication, cause unknown . The issue would be present in the egg or sperm before or at conception. Whether your exposure to Dilantin during formation of your eggs had any effect is not known. High levels of Dilantin during pregnancy do produce an effect on a fetus but chromosome changes is not part of that process.
