Heart stopping?: When a heart transplant is done, the human heart can be removed and preserved for many hours before it is implanted into another person. But if the heart stops in a living person, the brain does not get enough blood flow and that person will fall unconscious. After a few minutes, permanent brain injury can occur, and permanent injury to other organs, including the heart, quickly follows.
