Typical: Normal is not the right word for it, but it is typical. As you near menopause, you may find your periods become longer, shorter, less frequent, or even more often. If this persists, see your physician.

Possibly: This could be part of normal changes of the beginning of menopause... Or this could be a precancerous or cancerous condition. You should see a gynecologist to get an endometrial biopsy (biopsy of the cells in the lining of the uterus). This will make sure there are no cancerous cells in the uterus.
