De Quervain's?: There is a condition "de Quervain's disease" that results from inflammation in the wrist and thumb causing pain. This is associated with repetitive use, such as in lifting an infant from a crib or ground, wringing laundry...Pain when twist your wrist or lift something between your thumb and finger. Get evaluated. A specific splint can be made, ice and anti-inflammatory, and physical therapy.

See details: I am not sure what having a 2 year has to do with hand pain but i would urge that you have a doctor evaluate the issue if you are concerned.
