New workouts: Can be taxing particularly if you are starting from scratch and doing intense initial workouts. Your body naturally will tel you how much rest you need. Sounds like he is ok as long he is not doing any thing crazy, overly strenuous and has proper guidance from a trainer or even yourself. Get an idea what he is doing and have him split up or pare down the workouts if he is doing too much.
