Urine tox screen: Urine toxicology is the most common screen for drugs of abuse, though meconium can also be good screen for exposure to in utero illicit drugs.

Drug screening: A urine specimen can be collected on the baby and sent for a drug screen just like it is done on the mother. Also, the first stool of the baby (meconium) can be analyzed for drugs. The meconium will reveal the illegal drugs mom has taken since about 20 weeks gestation. Also an umbilical cord specimen and hair analysis can be done in some special labs.
