Special ultrasound: It's an ultrasound that gives a more detailed picture of the fetus. There is no good proof that getting a 3d ultrasound is beneficial to the mother or fetus in terms of pregnancy outcomes (and no good proof that it will do harm either). But many parents love it and will gladly pay out of pocket to have a more detailed picture of their baby.

New computer softwar: New computer software allows for the individual planes acquired during regular prenatal ultrasound scanning to be collated, manipulated and illustrated in a three-dimensional fashion for the uninitiated couples to be able to effortlessly visualize their unborn baby. It provides few/no significant advantage over traditional 2d prenatal ultrasound for the experienced physician/sonographer.
