A member asked:

Can a child have hearing loss but not hsv 2 from a mother that has hsv 2?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes: If the mother's hsv is inactive, she may never pass it to her baby. Some viral shedding is possible and may infect a baby in the first weeks, but most don't. Mild hearing loss could be transient fluid buildup in the middle ears. It can be a genetic issue or another virus called cmv.
