Could: Be chostochondrits or inflammation of the area, but if from cardiac source, he need ekg and blood test.

?costochondritis: The cause of the discomfort could be costochondritis(an inflammation of the joint between the rib and sternum) or due to problems with the gall bladder, liver, rib cage or simply a muscle injury or inflammation. I feel that your physician should examine him and order the appropriate diagnostic tests and treatment. In the meantime he could try applying heat, rubbing liniment and ibuprofen(with food).
