A member asked:

Is it possible for a stem cell itself to be cancerous? or must a stem cell first convert to some regular type of cell first then become cancerous?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Cancer stem cells: The rapidly dividing cells that drive cancers are actually stem cells, sharing their features with benign stem cells. This is true at least of many cancers, and it a relatively new understanding. Wikipedia is pretty good on it http://en.Wikipedia.Org/wiki/cancer_stem_cell.
