Damage: A muscle cramp is an all inclusive contracture of the muscle fibers. A true cramp can lead to tearing of the muscle fibers or attached tendons. I have even seen pieces of bone pulled off from severe muscle cramps. If they persist you should see a physician as they may be a sign of other problems.
