Palpitations: These are caused by many things. Stress, excitement, irritants both physical and chemical, pressure like a hiatal hernia or esophageal push or pull, and primary heart things, the causes are very many in number.

A 18-year-old member asked:
Is there a such thing as irregular heartbeat?

Dr. Irv Loh answered

Yes, don't panic: The heart has a system of pacemakers to control the heart rate, which all normally create an even, or regular, heart beat with the rate varying with the pacemaker in control and your physiologic needs. Any variance of the regular beat can be termed "irregular", but the significance also varies. Seeing your doctor to verify, look at causes, and then target treatment, if any, is the thing to do.
