Rashes: Syphilis is transmitted from an open sore on the skin to one's skin or directly from blood or semen or vaginal fluids to the penis, throat, or anus. Syphilis does not show up for about six weeks or so after infection. In most people the first sign is not a rash but a large ugly non-painful sore.
