Blocked bronchi: The bronchial tree branches and lead to air sacs (alveoli) that then transfer o2 to the blood stream. If a bronchial tube is completely blocked (e.g. By mucous, foreign body, tumor) the blocked air sacs as the air is absorbed into the blood stream and no air can get in>atelectasis. Lung collapse occurs if there is air or fluid between lung surface and chest wall (e.g. Pneumothorax/effusion).
