Slow growth time: The important thing is how he has been growing over time. Has he always been on the small side in his weight? Many kids (2-8 yr olds) grow slowly, only 3-4lbs/year at this age. Limit juice to 6oz/day and give more healthy foods. If he's growing on his own curve, active and healthy, just check with your doctor to see if the growth rate is normal for his age.

POOR WEIGHT GAIN:: Average 5 year old weighs 18 kg or 40 pounds. He should eat a balanced diet in moderate amount comprising of vegetables, fruits, meat, fish, egg, milk, etc., and 6-8 glasses of water. Need to eat 6 times/day: breakfast, lunch, diner and 3 snacks in between. I don't understand why apple juice has become important here. Let him eat combination of fruits in moderate amount, more protein, no juice.
