Depends: There are several possible issues for malabsorbtion.First you must make and use the enzymes needed for food to be broken down and absorbed. Second, the intestinal wall must have a healthy structure to do the absorption. Stool studies reveal the type of malabsorbtion. Blood studies look for evidence suggesting immune reactivity.The biopsy helps define the health of the absorptive surface.
