Chuckle: Some people even get pain with a rectal exam wherein we put a finger to feel inside and obtain a sample. If you have had a gynecological exam, some women don't like the bimanual part of the exam wherein one finger is inserted in each orifice to make sure a tumor is not missed. Usually a bigger tube inserted in anal sex and has to stretch it to go in. Some people i suppose like it some people not.

For many, yes, but..: It can be done without discomfort using a condom on a male with proper lubrication. It still may hurt some, particularly if your partner is rough. If you say stop, it must stop!
