Arrhythmia?: It would be highly unusual for an adult to have simple sinus tachycardia during submaximal exercise. There are two more plausible explanations: 1) your heart rate was not really 228 bpm. Sensors measuring heart rate can be wrong. They commonly have faults. 2) you have a tachyarrhythmia (abnormally fast heart rate due to an abnormal mechanism.) you may benefit from a monitored exercise test.

Tachycardia: Heart rate 228 BPM could be high. Usually sinus tachycardia rarely exceeds 160 bpm. If heart rate exceeds that likewise in your case exercise induced supraventricular tachycardia should be ruled out. Consult your physician and obtain thread mill under md supervision for correct diagnosis. Till then do not go onto elliptical.
