Yes: Syphillus that was sucessfully treated before pregnancy may still yield positive results on some blood tests. Syphillis acquired during pregnancy will be passed to the fetus with variable effect. Fetal loss can approach 40% or baby may have no visable effect but develop problems later. Treatment during pregnancy helps decrease complications for the newborn.
