Dormant: Hsv 2 can lie dormant for many years. You could have contracted it 20 years ago, and just discover it now. When you are exposed to the virus initially, it causes an immune reaction, and those antibodies will always be present in your blood stream. The virus incorporates itself into your cells and stays there until your immune system is weak, at which point it comes out to bother you.
