A member asked:

Is it safe to treat alzheimer's anxiety with daily xanax (alprazolam)?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Possibly: Concerns are that with increasing age (there is early onset alzheimer's too), benzodiazepines (like xanax) can cause "fogginess", falls, & hip fractures. From another perspective it may be acting as just a band-aid --- once it's gone, everything rebounds. Ultimately, other agents like antidepressants & even the alzheimer's medications can provide relief. Don't forget exercise, yoga, & tai chi.
