Dozens: Arthritis means joint (arthr-) inflammation (-itis). A joint becomes inflamed when something undesirable is in that joint. The irritant can be bacteria (infected joint), tiny wear particles of cartilage (osteoarthritis), crystals (gout), or your own antibodies (autoimmune arthritis). Rheumatoid, psoriatic and lupus are the immune type. There are many more. See your rheumatologist.
