Sun avoidance: Hydroquinone is a bleaching agent that can help even out skin color. So it can be used intermittently as needed. Tretinoin cream (retin-a) can be used long term to help maintain the appearance of the skin. Sun exposure can rapidly replace any pigmentation lost with bleaching, and tretinoin sensitizes the skin to sun, so sub avoidance is key.
