If a child has a cold sore is it okay to send them to school or will the nurse send them home?

It's ok: From a medical standpoint, it's fine. However, every school district has it's own rules for illness and conditions. It might be best if you call and talk to the school nurse, and they may just want a note that your pediatrician can fax to the school (even without seeing the child) saying it's fine she attends school.
