Yes: Sorry to hear of your injury. Repair of hamstring avulsion injuries w/ the displacement u describe is indicated in high - performance athletes where there is evidence of improved outcomes and return to previous sport. Non- operative treatment would be reccommended for someone in their 50's... The surgery itself can be demanding and not without complications(sciatic nerve very close)best of luck!
